World Maker Faire - New York City

We were excited to partner with Cognizant at the World Maker Faire in New York City. This was an incredible event where hundreds of young makers visited our booth over the course of three days. Makers were tasked with the challenge of shooting a "Dronie" (selfie with a drone) using DroneBlocks and DJI's Spark. Our team assisted students through the necessary block code followed by the execution of their programs with Spark. Many of the photos you see below are real-world examples of DroneBlocks code programmed by young makers. The "Dronie" lesson is freely available at learn.droneblocks.io and we encourage you to build your own "Dronie" mission!

National Boy Scout Jamboree - West Virginia

Every four years the Boy Scouts of America hold a national event known as the National Scout Jamboree, with over 30,000 scouts in attendance. We were invited to be a part of the event with DJI and Cognizant to demonstrate how drones can be used in teaching STEM.  Scouts visited the booth and learned about the hardware and sensors in drones, as well as how to use DroneBlocks to code an autonomous mission.

U.S. Army All-American Bowl STEMfest Event

Over the past few years the U.S. Army have provided a STEM experience during the weekend of the All American Bowl game. We were invited to attend the event with Expert Drones and DJI. Hundreds of students visited the "Drone Experience" area where they learned about the hardware aspects of DJI's Mavic Pro and Spark. They then proceeded with a challenge mission to fly Mavic Pro autonomously using DroneBlocks to take a "Dronie" photo.

TEDx Youth Austin

TED Talks are powerful and captivating videos of extraordinary speakers from all backgrounds and cultures. The x in TEDx stands for "independent", and TEDx has grown into a program of local, self-organized events that bring communities together to share in a TED-like experience. TEDx Youth Austin invited DroneBlocks to a recent event to discuss drone technology. Participants were split into teams and were tasked with a medicine delivery challenge using a DJI Phantom 4 drone. This challenge mission is available in the DroneBlocks Challenge Mission curriculum.

Travis Heights Elementary STEAM Day

Every year Travis Heights Elementary hosts a STEAM Day where experts from the community visit and talk about their respective professions. This year DroneBlocks was invited to teach students about programming Tello in a challenge format. We presented students with the Tello obstacle course challenge. Classes were split into teams and given the challenge of navigating Tello through an obstacle course using DroneBlocks and a bit of ingenuity. Teams were scored based on time and accuracy. This challenge mission is incredibly interactive, exciting, and can be done indoors!
